Bitumen of Judea wax

The Bitumen of Judea is tradtionally used by cabinetmakers to color/age/pgive a patina to wood. It's a dark brown organic fossil pigment (hydrocarbon, which explains its peculiar odor before drying)

As often, polymer clay players adopted it to give an ancient look to their creations, to imitate the natural ageing of materials, to bring antique appearance etc.

Bitumen of Judea is available on PolyStudio as a liquid or a wax.
The wax allows a better control of the patina and can be made shiny after drying by polishing with a soft cloth.
Liquid is a little trickier to handle and will be more useful for pieces with lots of hollow and relief parts.

• On polymer clay, apply small quantities with a brush, sponge, soft towel.
• Wipe excess with paper towel, wet wipes to shade off.
• You can apply several layers to get a darker color.
• After complete drying, a light sanding can reveal the underlaying color for interesting effects.
• Bitumen of Judea and tools can be cleaned with Turpentine.
• Can be used with polymer clay, wood, stone, metals.
